Face Jug Evaluation

1. Post a picture of your ugly face jug.

2. CRAFTSMANSHIP: Is your project well made?  What technical difficulties did you have in creating it?  Is your jug free of cracks and burrs?  Is everything smoothed out?  What technique would you like to work on for the next project?
Yes my jug has been well made-It was difficult shaping the face in the formation that I wanted, but it has no cracks and portrays the face that I wanted it to convey.  Everything is smoothed.  Maybe more glazing and under glazing- also shaping the clay into different formations.

3. DESIGN QUALITY: Is your design for the ugly face jug visually interesting and original?  Does the face show a dynamic expression?  Are the features of the face exaggerated?  Is the jug aesthetically interesting from all angles?
I think the face looks unlike any other face in the class, which is what I wanted.  The face portrays a sense of disgust/surprise.  The teeth  and mustache are probably the most distinct facial expressions on the jug, but definitely present different expressions. The eyes and mouth work together to present a different type of look.

4. EFFORT/AMBITION: Did you work hard?  Did you go beyond the basic requirements of the assignment?
Yes I worked on this jug for probably a week and a half, very diligently I might add.  I went beyond what was asked, and tried to fulfill all the requirements to the fullest.

Second Assignment-Pinch Pot Evaluation

After completing your 3 pinch pots, fill out this self-evaluation and post to your blog.  Attach a picture of your pinch pots in your post.

NAME:

1. CRAFTSMANSHIP: Is your project will made?  (All cracks smoothed out, consistent wall thickness, no heavy bottom?)  Did you understand and use the building and decoration techniques taught in this assignment?  What technical difficulties did you have in putting it together?
1) I believe that my pinch pots are well made, the cracks have been smoothed out for the most part, except for the pot that has texture.  I wanted the textured pot to be slightly grooved and uneven because that indicates movement/texture.  The building and decoration techniques were easy to follow, and I feel like I created durable pos that can be used.  Sometimes I had difficulty shaping the top of the pot and making it flat, but I enjoyed making them for the most part.

2. DESIGN QUALITY: Is your design for the shape of the pot and the decoration visually interesting (explain)?  Were your design ideas original and imaginative?  How did you create texture on at least one of your pinch pots?

2)One of my pots is pretty ordinary, yet it is shaped nicely and looks well done.  My second pot is a little more uneven on the top, but has varied lines throughout the inside/outside and has lots of texture.  My third pot is uniquely shaped and probably doesn't have a lot of use, but it's different and I think it turned out pretty cool.  For the textured pot, I used the scratcher tool that marked the pot in various lines.  The pots aren't extremely imaginative, however; they're nicely made and show personal flare.
3 EFFORT/AMBITION: Did you work hard?  Did you go beyond the basic requirements of the assignments (explain)? I tried to work as diligently and thoroughly as I could with the allotted amount of time we were given, but I think I could've done even better if I had another day.  I did the necessary requirements for the assignment, but thought I did them well.

4. Any other thoughts?
I really enjoyed this assignment and thought it was fun to create pinch pots before starting any other projects.

First Assignment

I took this course because...
I am excited by the opportunity to...
I am confident in my ability to...
I am curious about...
By the end of this semester, I want to be able to...

1) I took this course because I thought it would be really fun, yet relaxing to work with clay and other aspects of ceramics.  Also, I thought it would be interesting to have the basic fundamentals of ceramics before going to college.

2)Spin clay on the wheel and continue to make different pots/bowls/etc.  Although it may be difficult at first, by the end of the class I believe I'll be able to wheel/spin rather well.

3) I'm confident in my ability to complete assignments thoroughly and make creative, and unique bowls/pots on the wheel.

4) I am curious about assignments we will have in the future and the different shapes hat we will need to make with clay.

5) make a beautiful, and sophisticated pot/bowl that my mother would like to display in my house.
